Evaluation of the Application of Intelligent Applications in Patients Undergoing Peritoneal Dialysis
China223 participantsStarted 2024-07-01
Plain-language summary
The goal of this clinical trial is to evaluate the value of a smart application named "Weiyin Health" in the follow-up management of patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis. The main questions it aims to answer are:
Can the use of a smart application reduce the unplanned readmission rate?
Can the use of a smart application reduce the incidence of peritonitis?
Researchers will compare patients who use the smart application for follow-up with those who receive conventional follow-up.
Eligible patients on peritoneal dialysis will be randomly assigned to one of two groups: one group will receive conventional follow-up (WeChat group + telephone reminders), and the other group will use the "Weiyin Health" smart application for follow-up (including data collection, AI-based Q\&A, follow-up reminders, and risk alerts). Both groups will attend peritoneal dialysis specialty clinic visits once every 3 months for routine check-ups over a 12-month period.

Questions worth asking your doctor
Bring these to your next appointment. They're a starting point for a shared conversation — not a sign you qualify or a recommendation to enrol.
1Since this trial has already completed and was measuring unplanned readmission rates and peritonitis rates in peritoneal dialysis patients, can you tell me if the results are available yet and what they showed about whether intelligent apps helped reduce these problems?
2Peritonitis is one of the most serious complications of peritoneal dialysis — based on what this study found, are there specific monitoring tools or apps you'd recommend I use to help catch early warning signs?
3This trial was categorized as 'Phase NA,' meaning it was likely studying a care management tool rather than a new drug — does that mean the intelligent application tested here is something that could realistically be part of my care now, without me needing to join a trial?
4Given that this study focused on unplanned hospital readmissions, which are a big concern in peritoneal dialysis, how does my own situation compare to the kinds of patients enrolled, and would I be at higher or lower risk for the complications they were tracking?
5Before considering any technology-assisted monitoring approach like the one studied here, are there standard care steps or traditional support programs we should make sure I have in place first?
Generated to help you prepare — always confirm anything about your own eligibility and care with the study team and your doctor.
Questions for the trial coordinator
The trial coordinator is the person who runs the study day to day. These cover the practical side — logistics, costs, and what taking part would actually mean for your life. The study team confirms whether you meet the criteria; these are questions to ask, not a sign you qualify.
1What does taking part actually involve week to week — how many visits, where, and how long does each one take?
2What costs are covered by the study, and what might I have to pay for myself, including travel, parking, or time off work?
3What happens during screening, and what happens if the study team confirms I don't meet the criteria after those tests?
4Who pays for the scans, blood work, and other tests the trial requires — the study, my insurance, or me?
5How will being in the trial affect my regular care, and will my own doctor stay informed and involved?
6Can I leave the trial at any point if I change my mind, and what would happen to my care if I do?
A starting point for the conversation — always confirm anything about your own eligibility, costs, and care with the study team and your doctor.
