A Mindfulness-based Intervention for Hotel Staff
Hong Kong60 participantsStarted 2026-06-01
Plain-language summary
This research aims to investigate the potential impact of a structured mindfulness-based professional development program on hotel employees and to explore why and how these changes occur during and after the mindfulness intervention through a mixed-methods approach. A 6-week mindfulness intervention with 60 hotel staff from a hotel will be implemented in Hong Kong. Both quantitative and qualitative data will be collected to examine changes in job-related outcomes, wellbeing, and state mindfulness and teachers' lived experiences and perspectives associated with this intervention. Data will be analyzed based on convergent parallel mixed-method approach, such as mixed-effects modeling, mediation analysis, and thematic analysis. This study may provide practical implications for developing evidence-based programs to promote wellbeing and service quality among hotel employees.

Questions worth asking your doctor
Bring these to your next appointment. They're a starting point for a shared conversation — not a sign you qualify or a recommendation to enrol.
1This trial is focused on hotel staff experiencing work-related stress and burnout — can you help me assess whether my current levels of emotional exhaustion and job dissatisfaction match what this study is designed to address?
2Since this trial is listed as 'not yet recruiting,' what should I be doing in the meantime to manage my work-related stress and psychological well-being while I wait to see if it opens?
3The study is measuring emotional labor and burnout using tools like the Maslach Burnout Inventory — based on how I'm currently doing on those kinds of measures, do you think a mindfulness-based approach is likely to be a good fit for my situation?
4This trial is in a non-clinical phase focused on a workplace wellbeing intervention rather than a medical treatment — are there existing, evidence-based mindfulness or stress-reduction programs I could access now that are similar to what this study is testing?
5Given that this study specifically targets hotel staff and work performance outcomes, how relevant do you think the findings would be to my particular work environment and the kind of stress I'm experiencing?

Questions for the trial coordinator
The trial coordinator is the person who runs the study day to day. These cover the practical side — logistics, costs, and what taking part would actually mean for your life. The study team confirms whether you meet the criteria; these are questions to ask, not a sign you qualify.
1What does taking part actually involve week to week — how many visits, where, and how long does each one take?
2What costs are covered by the study, and what might I have to pay for myself, including travel, parking, or time off work?
3What happens during screening, and what happens if the study team confirms I don't meet the criteria after those tests?
4Who pays for the scans, blood work, and other tests the trial requires — the study, my insurance, or me?
5How will being in the trial affect my regular care, and will my own doctor stay informed and involved?
6Can I leave the trial at any point if I change my mind, and what would happen to my care if I do?
A starting point for the conversation — always confirm anything about your own eligibility, costs, and care with the study team and your doctor.
