Evaluation of Voice in Behcet's
60 participantsStarted 2025-02-15
Plain-language summary
Behçet's disease (BD) is a systemic inflammatory condition of unknown origin with no definite aetiopathogenetic pathways accepted worldwide. To date, only a few studies have investigated laryngeal involvement in BD and data about this are scarce. For these reasons, the present study focuses on verifying the occurrence of vocal cord involvement in patients with BD, identifying potential correlations with specific demographic, clinical, and therapeutic characteristics.

Questions worth asking your doctor
Bring these to your next appointment. They're a starting point for a shared conversation — not a sign you qualify or a recommendation to enrol.
1This trial is studying voice changes in Behcet's disease by looking at laryngoscopy images and measuring things like voice frequency and noise in the sound — does my current disease activity or any throat symptoms make this something worth discussing with you?
2Since this study is listed as 'not yet recruiting,' do you know when it might open and whether it would even make sense to revisit this option once enrollment begins?
3The trial measures specific voice qualities like jitter, shimmer, and harmonic-to-noise ratio — can you explain what these measurements tell us about how Behcet's disease might be affecting the larynx or vocal cords?
4This appears to be an observational study rather than a treatment trial — would participating involve any procedures like laryngoscopy that carry their own risks, and how would that fit into my existing care plan?
5Given that this is a study focused on understanding voice changes rather than testing a new treatment, would you recommend I prioritize this kind of research participation, or are there other clinical trials testing actual therapies for Behcet's that might be a better fit for where I am right now?

Questions for the trial coordinator
The trial coordinator is the person who runs the study day to day. These cover the practical side — logistics, costs, and what taking part would actually mean for your life. The study team confirms whether you meet the criteria; these are questions to ask, not a sign you qualify.
1What does taking part actually involve week to week — how many visits, where, and how long does each one take?
2What costs are covered by the study, and what might I have to pay for myself, including travel, parking, or time off work?
3What happens during screening, and what happens if the study team confirms I don't meet the criteria after those tests?
4Who pays for the scans, blood work, and other tests the trial requires — the study, my insurance, or me?
5How will being in the trial affect my regular care, and will my own doctor stay informed and involved?
6Can I leave the trial at any point if I change my mind, and what would happen to my care if I do?
A starting point for the conversation — always confirm anything about your own eligibility, costs, and care with the study team and your doctor.
