Effectiveness of Video Monitoring and Care Transition for Heart Failure Patients (EVIT-HF): Randomized Clinical Trial
Brazil140 participantsStarted 2025-06-01
Plain-language summary
The goal of this clinical trial is to measure the effectiveness of video monitoring associated with the transition of care for patients with heart failure.
The main questions it aims to answer is: Is video monitoring superior to monitoring via audio calls in patients with heart failure?
Researchers will compare monitoring by video to a monitoring by audio to see if drug videomonitoring works to improve selfcare in heart failure and other outocomes.
Participants will:
intervention group receive video calls guided by cardiologist nurses at 7, 30, 60, 180 and 365 days after hospital discharge.
the control group will receive audio calls for data collection, at the same time mentioned.

Questions worth asking your doctor
Bring these to your next appointment. They're a starting point for a shared conversation — not a sign you qualify or a recommendation to enrol.
1This trial focuses on video monitoring and care transitions after hospitalization for HFrEF — given my current stage of heart failure and how recently I was diagnosed, would participating in a study like this fit where I am in my treatment right now, or should I focus on getting stable first?
2The trial is measuring self-care behaviors using a specific scale called the European Self-Care Scale — what does 'self-care' actually mean in the context of HFrEF, and how would video monitoring potentially help me manage things like daily weigh-ins, fluid intake, or medication adherence?
3Since this is listed as Phase NA, which I think means it's studying how care is delivered rather than testing a new drug — what are the potential downsides or risks of being in the video monitoring group versus whatever the comparison group is?
4This trial is about the transition from hospital to home, so does that mean I'd need to be recently hospitalized to be eligible, and if I haven't been in the hospital recently, is this something worth revisiting in the future?
5Are there standard heart failure management programs or existing telehealth options already available to me that my care team recommends, and how would those compare to what this trial is studying before I consider enrolling?

Questions for the trial coordinator
The trial coordinator is the person who runs the study day to day. These cover the practical side — logistics, costs, and what taking part would actually mean for your life. The study team confirms whether you meet the criteria; these are questions to ask, not a sign you qualify.
1What does taking part actually involve week to week — how many visits, where, and how long does each one take?
2What costs are covered by the study, and what might I have to pay for myself, including travel, parking, or time off work?
3What happens during screening, and what happens if the study team confirms I don't meet the criteria after those tests?
4Who pays for the scans, blood work, and other tests the trial requires — the study, my insurance, or me?
5How will being in the trial affect my regular care, and will my own doctor stay informed and involved?
6Can I leave the trial at any point if I change my mind, and what would happen to my care if I do?
A starting point for the conversation — always confirm anything about your own eligibility, costs, and care with the study team and your doctor.
