Therefore, tests that can help discriminate organic from functional diseases are warranted. Immunochemical fecal occult blood tests (iFOBT) and fecal calprotectin (FC) are biomarkers that indicate organic lesions in the gastrointestinal tract and could help diagnose patients with lower GI symptoms more accurately.
