Patients studied are those already infected by CMV before transplantation ("seropositive"). Patients given thymoglobulin as induction therapy receive CMV prophylaxis with valganciclovir, while those given basiliximab undergo weekly monitoring for CMV viremia with preemptive treatment as needed.
