Multifaceted Physioterapeutic Intervention at Workplace
Brazil172 participantsStarted 2011-01
Plain-language summary
BACKGROUND: Individual approaches at the workplace might not be sufficient to control Work Related Musculoskeletal Diseases (WMSDs) since they are multifactorial and refractory cases might need an additional rehabilitation program.
OBJECTIVE: To evaluate multifaceted intervention efficacy to manage the WMSDs.
METHODS: A Nordic musculoskeletal questionnaire was applied pre and post intervention to determine the efficacy of a multifaceted program, including ergonomics, exercise program and acupuncture/physical therapy exercises orientation at the workplace in 126 workers of a hearing-aid industry. Additionally, a self-perception survey (Likert scale) concerning absenteeism, quality of life and work ability helped to evaluate the program that lasts one year and ten months.

Questions worth asking your doctor
Bring these to your next appointment. They're a starting point for a shared conversation — not a sign you qualify or a recommendation to enrol.
1This trial studied workplace physiotherapy for musculoskeletal pain — if I'm dealing with pain in multiple parts of my body, could a similar multifaceted physiotherapy program at my workplace be a realistic option for me, or would I need to seek that kind of treatment elsewhere?
2Since this trial has already been completed, has my doctor seen its results, and do the findings suggest this type of workplace-based intervention actually helped reduce how often or how long people experienced musculoskeletal symptoms?
3The trial tracked pain presence, duration, and frequency across different body parts — given my specific symptoms and which parts of my body are affected, does my doctor think I fit the kind of patient profile this study was designed for?
4Before pursuing a workplace physiotherapy program like the one studied here, should I try standard individual physiotherapy or other first-line treatments first, and how does my doctor weigh those options against a more structured workplace-based approach?
5Since this was a physiotherapy-focused intervention rather than a medication-based one, what should I know about what 'multifaceted' might mean in practice — things like exercise, ergonomics, or education — and how demanding might that kind of program be to fit into my work schedule?

Questions for the trial coordinator
The trial coordinator is the person who runs the study day to day. These cover the practical side — logistics, costs, and what taking part would actually mean for your life. The study team confirms whether you meet the criteria; these are questions to ask, not a sign you qualify.
1What does taking part actually involve week to week — how many visits, where, and how long does each one take?
2What costs are covered by the study, and what might I have to pay for myself, including travel, parking, or time off work?
3What happens during screening, and what happens if the study team confirms I don't meet the criteria after those tests?
4Who pays for the scans, blood work, and other tests the trial requires — the study, my insurance, or me?
5How will being in the trial affect my regular care, and will my own doctor stay informed and involved?
6Can I leave the trial at any point if I change my mind, and what would happen to my care if I do?
A starting point for the conversation — always confirm anything about your own eligibility, costs, and care with the study team and your doctor.
