Inclusion Criteria: * chronic primary or secondary adrenal insufficiency requiring glucocorticoid substitution therapy Exclusion Criteria: * adrenocortical carcinoma * long term glucocorticoid treatment above 7.5 mg prednisone equivalent dose for other reasons than adrenal insufficiency * age \< 18 years
